Forever Enthralled is a Chinese biographical film directed by Chen Kaige; the film marks Chen's eleventh feature film as a director. Forever Enthralled follows the life of Mei Lanfang, one of China's premiere opera performers.
When a young monk is forced to leave his impoverished monastery, he relies on his extraordinary martial arts skills to survive in the outside world. The monk finds himself immersed in a deadly battle to protect both the book and his master.
Mikael is an apothecary who lives in the small Armenian village of Sirun in the southeast part of the Ottoman Empire. In order to help pay the expenses for medical school, he promises himself to the daughter of an affluent neighbor, receiving 400 gold coins as a dowry. This allows him to travel to Constantinople and attend the Imperial Medical Academy.
The story is set in China during the Tang Dynasty. A demon cat appears and breaks the peace of the capital, Chang’an City, causing a series of strange events. Poet Bai Letian and Monk Kukai join together to investigate the death of Concubine Yang by following the trail left by the cat, unveiling a buried fact.
