ROBERT RYMAN

“In 1978 and 1979, I drew 30 to 40 pieces a day at
maximum. Many exhibited works were not even
included in the work book. I used to sell my
painting to a gallery, but sometimes I did not
receive any money and the paintings were
missing. Frequently, I left space for a signature
a registration number empty for the gallery to fill in.”

“I consider space to be a material. The
articulation of space has come to take
precedence over other concerns. I attempt to use
sculptural form to make space distinct.”
“What interests me is the opportunity for all of
us to become something different from what we
are, by constructing spaces that contribute
something to the experience of who we are.”
